The last few days have been crazy to say the least! And right now is total mayhem in the streets. Im sitting in the lounge where its usually nice and quiet but all I can hear is people chanting, cars and motorbikes revving their engines and beeping their horns and fireworks constantly going off. The soccer finals have just finished and Sao Paulo won! There are people everywhere outside all going crazy its madness and the party has only just begun. =)
Ive spent the last few days as a zombie as im still jet lagged and so the days have become a bit of a blur. On wednesday, i think, we went to a place for lunch to try some traditional brazillian dish. The waiter came to the table with a chunk of beef and another chunk of pork both skewered on what looked like two swords, about a meter long, and stabbed them into the center of the table, there are 4 small holes made for this, the waiter then carves the meat off onto a plate for you. Tasty!
After lunch we went to the local shopping center to find me some decent jeans. We went to about 5 different stores and eventually went with the pair I tried at the very first store, typical. Its obvious that Gabi is well known here as she seemed to know most of the store owners and we bumped into heaps of people she knew as well, needless to say I got a good discount on the jeans :)
We went to the food court to get some juice as Brazil is famous for its plethora of tasty fruit juices or sucos (soo-kohz). I had passionfruit (maracuja) which tasted ten time better than any passionfruit Ive had before. It seems like all fruit here tastes so much better! I had mango banana and melon for breakfast and couldnt get enough it was so delicious! Que Gostoso!
They also serve beer in the food court and not just a pint or a jug but this big tall cylinder looking thing with its own hose tap. A good 3 litres worth Id say, crazy.
While drinking our tasty juices one of Gabis friends Riccardo came and said hello. He had just come from an interview for his latest CD and gave us tickets to the CD launch which was the following night, lucky us...
Thursday Gabi and I walked to an ice cream shop corner store thing where I had passionfruit ice cream, it was like sorbet and tasted amazing. I think im hooked on passionfruit.
Such a lazy day and completley jet lagged I had a bit of a nanna nap :)
That night we went to a going away bbq where I met a few of Gabis friends. I cant remember their names so ive given some nicknames, which I cant really write coz theyre swear words. It seems like they only know one english swear word, but Ive helped them out with that and vice versa, its hillarious.
After the bbq was the CD launch, it was a VIP invite only event and the benefit of this was an open bar and food service too. I had my first of many passionfruit caiprihinias which was damn tasty. Riccardo had a film crew for his performance and a photographer from the local paper too. It was a pretty flashy event and a crazy night which ended back here where Riccardo cooked some tasty pasta dish while we drank wine and whiskey... Today Cida showed me the coverage in the newspaper and right there is a photo of me and Gabi, im getting famous... When I arrived here Cida showed me an article in the paper about Gabi coming home from Australia with her famous dj friend Luke Riberro, (Cida spelt it wrong...)
Friday was another zombie day which I spent lazing by the pool listening to my flashy iPod touch and soaking up the sun. Afterward I was treated to a massage just a short walk away down the road at a local health club. A full body massage which was exactly what I needed for my hangover. We had another bbq to attend that night but I passed out watching some random movie...
I was invited to dj at a friends birthday pool party on saturday and this was not just any pool party either. The house is in an estate that has a security gate at the entrance so only registered visitors can enter. Its one of the upper class areas and all the houses are huge! A very fancy neighbourhood where even the kids have little cars or 'boogies' which is the brazillian way of saying buggy. They look like a barbie car on steroids and go about 15kph max. Loco! The birthday girl had two bartenders serving cocktails and including myself we were the only guys invited to the party of about 20 girls, niiice =) I hooked up... my laptop to the stereo and started mixing some summer beats while drinking caprioskas and fruity caiprihinas.. Its the first time ive used the dj program for a party and it went really well, especially considering I couldnt plug my headphones in... After the birthday cake was cut the birthday girl put on her fav CD and I kicked back by the pool with the girls and soaked up some more sunshine and a plethora of cocktails, a very relaxing afternoon...
We left that party and headed to another, this one at a different estate on the other side of town. I thought the first estate was flashy but this one was bigger and better. The house was more like a hotel and reminded me of the columbian drug lords house from scarface. Absolutley huge! The fellas from the other night were there and I was greeted with shouts of 'mother f***er!' funny guys.
It was a typical house party but with unique brazillian style. A few guys were cooking the churrascaria (choo-hah-skeh-dee-ahz) which is a brazillian bbq where different cuts of meat are cooked over the whole night. The girls were chatting away, a few guys were playing cards, Truco, which I still cant quite figure out, and Gabi and a few others were in the pool. All this with a keg, vodka and loud sound system made for a great night. Thankfully most of Gabis friends can speak english so I could actually have some conversations. With the guys I was mainly learning and teaching new swear words and talking about how beautiful the girls in Brazil are. With the girls I mostly spoke with Issabella about random crap like the difference between this party and the ones back home and, how am I liking brazil? I love this place!
After drinking allllllll day, drunken dancing, eating tasty tasty churrascaria and talking crap, the jet lag kicked in and I went home and passed out. I awoke half way through the night with that all too familiar headache and gross taste, stretched out and yawned, and smash! I knocked my glass of water over, ijot!
After a much needed sleep-in followed by some sunshine soaking by the pool, we went to visit Gabis dad (Osvair) and two brothers (Raffaele and Bruno) for lunch. Fish! or salmon to be more specific. Osvair is a bit of an online poker addict and got me stuck into a game where I won $6k! if only it was for real..
Tonight is going to be huge. We have tickets to what is said to be the biggest party of the year, Barao! (bah-rrom) With all the craziness still going on outside its going to be a wild party for sure.
Wow Ive written half a book.... So far my experince in Brazil has been better than I could have imagined and Its only the first week. I saw some capybaras on the way home last night which was an unexpected suprise. Google it if you dont know. I keep saying to Gabi that every meal I have is a new experience and they all taste so good! I cant get enough of the fruit either. I can see that the next two months are going to be some of the best in my life if things keep going the way they have been. Im finally free of stress and cant stop smiling, vida amor! =)
Current temperature 34. Lovin it.
