Saturday night was one huge Brazilian party, Festa do Barao!
It was located at a huge building that looked like a palace from the front. The entrance opens into a massive hall with marble pillars, high archways and people everywhere. Down and to the left was the dancefloor and stage that leads outside to a grassed zone and huge lake. Apparently other parties have had the dj on the island with a small ferry service to get you there. The dj was pumping out some house tunes on the immense sound system. Roughly 16 speakers either side of the stage and huge bass bins, it was loud to say the least.
We arrived at 1am, the party had started at 11, and headed to the nearest of about 5 bars. Being an 'open bar' party meant it was a bit of a wait to get a drink but when we did they were about 50% alcohol. Something about brazilian bartenders they dont measure their shots, they just pour away...
Most of the night was spent on the dance floor meters away from the blarring sound system that made it near impossible for any conversation. Occasionaly I would venture to the outdoor area to get some fresh air by the lake. I nicknamed this area the lovers forrest for obvious reasons. Nice view though. Especially when the sun started to come up, very picturesque.
Around 6am the dj was playing progressive & tech house and had the crowd in a steady groove. The bars had quitened down slightly as most everyone had partnered up, many for the 3rd or 4th time too. The feeling I got from the crowd for most of the night was one of anticipation, like everyone was waiting for something that never came. The djs were mainly playing prog, techno and snippets of electro with some remixed cheese thrown in every so often that did get some response. But overall it felt like the crowd wanted more, to be pushed harder. Thats when I thought, The Beat Collective would of rocked this place! =-)
When 8am came around I started thinking, this is crazy! The sun was shining bright and hot and everyone was still partying without any signs of stopping, then the next dj stepped up and started playing some chunky Techno to get us through the next 3 hours. All the techno junkies showed there true form jumping around and dancing like crazies to the throbbing beats. The crowed was scattered, empty cups littered the dancefloor, couples made out in what little shade they could find, the main hall was covered with food scraps and spilt drinks and we were all smiling zombies. But still the party continued.
We got home finally at about 11am. Totally exhausted and half deaf. I passed out for a good 4 hours and spent the rest of the blurry day by the pool. It took another day before the ringing in my ears stopped and my hearing became normal again.
Overall a pretty good party...
