Matthew visited me on Wednesday morning and we went for a bit of a stroll. We were looking for a park to chill at and watch the world go by. We were having a bit of trouble locating a suitable park here in Russell Square when suddenly I was struck with a brilliant idea, ‘Let’s go to Hyde Park!’
I didn’t know what to expect of Hyde Park but when I arrived I was totally amazed. The park is pretty huge! Matt and I walked for about 10 minutes down the main path until we spotted a suitable location to park our butts.
We sat by a leafless tree and Matt hung his coat on a broken branch stub while I got out the cans of coke and the bags of chips we had bought at the tube station, oh and a snickers bar of course. We watched the world go by and all the craziness of Hyde Park for a good half hour, just talking nonsense and enjoying the nice but cool weather.
A few people played soccer about 25 meters from where we sat, further back a guy dressed all in black had a little speaker playing dance music and he was dancing on the spot like he was in a club. A moment later at the path along the lake about 100meters infront of us, a group of kids rode past all doing wheelies. Everywhere else people were hanging out with friends under trees, lazing on the grass, walking rollerblading and skating down the paths.
We went for a walk to explore more of the park and came across a group of squirrels in the bushes to the left of the path. I moved up to the fence to get a better look and one Squirrel came out onto the path, walked up to Matthews feet then bounded along to the grass area on the other side. There are quite a lot of squirrels around and I get the feeling they are the rats and seagulls of Hyde Park. They’re certainly unafraid to approach people and often enough are rewarded with scraps of food too.
I’m planning on going back to Hyde Park because there is so much to see and my camera went flat! I really enjoy taking photos of the scenery but every time I get the perfect shot someone or something gets in the way! I think I’ve written about this before because it happens all the time!
After Hyde Park Matt and I went to Sooki’s house and watched TV and played the X-Box 360. I ended up sleeping on the couch because Matthew failed to mention that Sooki lived outside of the CBD and I couldn’t get a tube back. My alternative was to go with Matt to Hastings and catch the two hour train back in the morning for 10quid, stuff that!
Last night I planned to take easy being a Thursday and considering I had a large night with Matt and his mates the night before, but just like Miami I was convinced by my new friends to head out. We walked the cold streets in a seemingly random direction and stopped in at a warm pub. I ordered ‘a pint of beer thanks mate’ and that’s what I got. I should have asked the name of the beer because it was pretty good!
After the pub we continued walking for about another 10minutes when we were stopped by a promo guy offering vip entrance to a club, we accepted and paid the $5 cover. It turned out to be a pretty crazy night filled with drinking dancing chatting and more drinking.
When it was time to leave Line(Leena) and I went to the cloakroom to get our stuff. I had given Line my jacket to put in with her stuff and let her hold on to the ticket assuming it would be safer with her than me, little did i know...
Line couldn’t seem to find the cloak room ticket in her drunken state and we were faced with the prospect of having to wait almost two hours for the club to close before we could find our stuff. Thankfully Line found a ticket hidden somewhere on her person and was able to retrieve her bag. The two counter girls were clearly having a terrible night and were blatantly ignoring us. Eventually they paid us some attention and we mentioned that we had two jackets still in the cloak room. ‘Well you should have two more tickets as well then’, replied the snotty brunette. After about 5 minutes of Line repeatedly searching her pockets and the rest of us trying to figure out what to do, the counter girl must have given up trying to annoy us and went out the back and returned with our jackets, that wasn’t so hard now was it?
