The last few weeks I have been completely bored. I've been waking after lunch time and going to bed around 3am. I've applied for a fair few jobs but have had no success. I even had a trial shift at Browns Bar & Brassiere last friday night but found out yesterday that I didn’t get the job. Although I like this town quite a bit it’s become obvious to me that I need to move on.
Yesterday like many other days, I decided to go for a walk. I loaded up Google maps and plotted a route to the coast. It took me about 20minutes to walk to the coast and when I got there I was greeted with a pretty nice view. The path I was walking turned into a flight of steps that lead down through a small cottage of houses and to the coastal road. From the top of the stairs I could see out beyond the coast road and into the harbor where a scattering of boats floated in the calm waters. The breakwater that enclosed the harbor was being battered by water on the sea side and looked like fun. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
I walked through the small cottage and across the road, then headed through a gap in the stone wall that lined the road and onto the beach. All over the grassy beach front were pot holes filled with burnt wood and litter. There are so many of these little holes that they look like rabbit burrows but are in fact old fire pits. I guess this must be a popular place to sit around a fire with a few friends and a carton of beer as most of the holes had burn beer cans in them.
The middle of the breakwater was filled with big rocks and a warning sign at the start said to take care. I took a few happy snaps while walking the length of the breakwater. The air seemed to be getting colder and the wind had picked up considerably. Half way out and then I started to get wet from the spray of crashing waves. It was a relatively calm day so it must be quite hectic out there when it gets rough.
Reaching the end I took in the panoramic view. The large port to the left, the land that stretched out in front, the open water to the right with a single island in the middle, behind me was the road and path I had followed through the houses, and to the right the harbor with the floating boats. I stood there a while just looking around and trying not to freeze. I took my gloves off to reply to a message on my phone and immediately realised how cold it was, my hands were freezing within seconds. Time to head back. It was a nice day and a great way to kill an hour or 2.
Today I went on a similar adventure. I went for my usual run by the river following the trail known as the Water of Leith Walk. Instead of turning around at the usual point I ventured further. I came across an information point and read a bit of the history of the river and then kept on walking. I eventually reached the sea and the port that I had seen the previous day. I kept walking until the path ran out and then turned back. Another nice day and way to kill an hour or two.
I’ve just had the last of my pasta which I cooked the other night. So so tasty! I cooked pasta with chunky veg sauce, a box of shrooms, half a jar of olives and some smoky sausage that I’ve forgotten the name of. Tonight for dinner I think I’ll have tuna. I’m very bored and have nothing to do. I’m washing my clothes so that they’re ready for thursday. I’m heading off to Noordwijk in the Netherlands and can't wait! I’m only staying there for 4 days but it’s going to be awesome fun I can tell.
It’s exactly one month until I'm off to Costa Rica with Leire. We've booked a 4WD for the whole 2 weeks, and have also booked a hostel for the first night we're there. We have a rough idea of where we want to go and should hopefully have it all sorted out tomorrow. It’s a month away but I’m already excited. I can’t wait to go, the weather should be nice and warm, the water just as nice, the views will be amazing, it will be an awesome adventure and I get to spend it all with an absolute hottie! =)
